James Troi's Visual Diary

Dec 05

I finally get to put one of my own photos on my visual diary site. I took this on Saturday with my friend’s, friend’s daughter. I think you’ll agree she makes for a beautiful model.
Shot with a single light, a Canon Speedlite 580EX II of to the right held by my lovely assistant for the day.
I usually prefer to shoot with just me and the model, but on this day the assistant (my friend who brought us together for the shoot) was invaluable.

In particular style of Bruce Weber and Abercrombie here we have Chad Buchanan. A typical preppy look.

Beautiful shot of the ANZ Centre in Docklands Melbourne. The building was designed by architect firm “HASSELL”, this photograph by Peter Bennetts.
I’m thinking I’m going to try for this shot and perhaps a night time one of the same location.

“A good photo comes from the connection and trust between photographer and subject. It’s a collaboration. Without that the photo means nothing.” — Joey Lawrence - Faces of a Vanishing World. 49:35

Another light box / light tent alternative -

I think I’ll have a go at creating this one tomorrow. Couple of supplies from Bunnings (hardware store) and I’ll be done. Will use it for my new portfolio theme and for ongoing food photography.

H00T (like an owl version of W00T) this is a gorgeous picture of an owl by Jason Idzera. Just amazing colours and clarity. I’m quite taken by it. I can’t stop staring into those giant eyes.
Jason is an amazing wildlife photographer.

A man performs Mallakhamb (gymnast’s pole) during a practice session at a playground in Mumbai September 13, 2010. Mallakhamb is a combination of traditional Indian gymnastics and martial arts and it can be traced back to the 12th century. For centuries, the sport has been dormant but is now regaining popularity in the country. The group will perform during the opening and closing ceremonies at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, according to their coach. (REUTERS/Danish Siddiqui)
The horizon and the pole on which the suspended athlete appears are off rotation clearly in an attempt to straighten out the athlete’s form.
