Loch Ard Gorge by Is This Graham?
I’m not going to lie, I have a deep-seated childhood memory associated with this place and it has nothing to do with visiting it. There’s a move, The Pirate Move, a parody of The Pirates of Penzance. I love it and I remember this view as the place where Frederic first arrives ashore and the pirates later anchor their boat (in their own way).
I’m not a huge fan of overdone HDR photography and this one is almost over the top. You can see a halo just starting to form where the foliage and cliff top meet the sky. But I like it still for the memories it invokes.
I like the grunge and grossness of this scene. The green, the vignetting, the rust around the tap, and the destroyed toilet add to it.
It’s funny that the photo was taken by a woman. I always imagine the female toilets to be pristine places and thought it was only the men’s public toilets that appeared in these states.

Snow on Dead Neighborhoods by Thomas Hawk
It is Thomas Hawk’s goal to have over one million photos online before he dies. He currently has around 63,000.
This photo is a great example of the things we miss when we don’t look up. The muted blue/grey tones bring the winter feel to the shot.
The colour, the repetition, the point of view. What more is there to say? It looks great. But is it a landscape, or maybe still life?
I feel this shot from Jason Hawkes is a beautiful landscape. New York looks lovely at night. The original caption is “The Williamsburg suspension bridge crossing the East River”. I first saw it on the Boston Globe’s website The Big Picture.
The clarity is amazing and Jason Hawkes has many great photos on his site.
A great photo by kdinuraj, found on Flickr. In this photo I love the colour, the depth of field and the choice of subject. The photographer could have easily tried to take a wider shot or use a greater depth of field but I feel it would have made for a weaker photo.
In this shot we’re shown a stunning example of the piled pebbles and in the blur shown that the whole landscape is filled with these strange piles of stone.
