Inspirational photography stuff. |
Product Catalogue from Rip Curl shows a watch still life that I think looks impressive at first glance but is quickly proven to be a mash-up of images.
I’m facinated by the way the flow of water is taking place around the watches. But think it is probably not even there for this shot. On close inspection I’m pretty sure the whole shot s at least 5 images merged together with each watch being t;s own file, the water image another and the background may well just be a gradient and not an image at all.
It has inspired me to do something similar (if I can find a suitable vessel to hold water and products) but to try and do it as a one shot.

A beautiful close-up still life showing the patterns of nature.
“The droids we’re googling for” by Stéfan.
Humour in photos os always great. This method of continuing pop-culture references are great to see. The use of depth of field giving us a clear view of the screen lets us see what the reference is. The storm troopers however are soft focused, we all know what they are so there isn’t as big a need to have these guys in sharp focus.
There is so much repitition in this photo, the blues, the oranges the headlights. I really like it. I think the photographer (or editor) has removed something in the top left hand corner, it seems a little too black.
This broken egg actually looks like it is mirrored, the symmetry is far too perfect for a cracked egg and there is too much shell for this egg to be a single egg (without reflection).
I do like the symmetry in the shot, not big on the lighting, it probably could have been lit a little more.
The photo looks like a Rorschach test.
“No, I said take me to JABBA!” by PowerPig on Flickr
I laughed so hard when I saw this photo, so, so hard. Being both a fan of Star Wars AND ABBA immediately bought a print of this photo from Chris’ (PowerPig’s alter ego) Redbubble gallery.
Chris’ wit is amazing, his ability to interpret lines from movies into these, faux people, still life photos is exceptional.
The humour has me giggling, but it is Chris’ set building and command of depth of field that makes his photos great to me.
It’s a real photographer who thinks of the shot while blood is dripping from his nose in the sink, that’s what Steve Kay is.
I like how the red of the blood stands out so strong on the white that is the sink. The way most of the blood is pooled near the drain hole takes on a meaning of its own. We may think about blood being the lifeforce of the human and its movement towards to drain as symbolism for the loss of life. Of course it’s an unintended meaning as this was a completely opportunistic shot.
The shallow depth of field and the colour red adds to the ominous feeling that so many associate with the number 13. I hear (but can’t confirm) that many of the big hotels in the United States don’t even have a floor 13. The space where it would be is either a void or used more storage, so strong is the human psyche with it comes to superstitions.
This is just a great object shot.
The colour, the repetition, the point of view. What more is there to say? It looks great. But is it a landscape, or maybe still life?
I really like this still life by ThePixelPusher. Found on Flickr it stood out because of the great colours, the powerful blue of the sky and the diagonal formed by the clothesline. View more of on ThePixelPusher’s photostream.
